To all you who have called or emailed me lately and I haven't responded.....I haven't forgotten about you!  Sorry for my non-responsiveness.  I've been traveling home a lot (for Kristin's fabulous wedding, and other small trips) and school's been busy, but things are starting get back to the normal swing of things.

I am oh so sad because I am missing Kristin's Bachelorette/Shower this evening.  It's so hard being away from home sometimes!  But I am so thankful that I am able to come home for the wedding next weekend and see high school friends.

It's apparent that I haven't written in a long time.  School/work has been absolutely crazy!  The professors have this new idea that they load up at the beginning of the semester because they know how busy things are at the end of the semester.  Sounds great in theory, except everyone of my professors is doing it, so I'm going nuts now!  The nice thing will be that after Thanksgiving, I won't really have to do any school work, and my classes will just be listening to student presentation.  There is a light at the end!  Although it is no excuse, the craziness I am experiencing now has caused me to be very bad at keeping in touch with people.  So sorry friends if I haven't talked to you in awhile.  Really, it's probably better for you because many times I haven't made much sense talking to people, they think I've completly lost my mind.

To clarify my current objectives....I have recently become interested in non-profit organizations.  I'm thinking about working at a non-profit environmental agency when I get my degree.  At my school there is this wonderful program that instead of working as a GA for your scholarship money, you can be placed at a non-profit or local government agency.  Working at PALS was the closest I could get to environment, but this opportunity will provide me a great experience regarding how non-profits work and how they are run.  I'm also taking a fund development course that will provide another aspect of the workings behind non-profit agencies.  The first assignment in that class is looking at past records of the agency's revenue and spending.  After working for the government this summer, I'm not so sure that is the route I want to take after I graduate, so I am taking advantage of the great non-profit classes that are offered in my degree program.

I hope that clears up some of the confusion :)

Dave came to visit me since he had the long weekend.  Unfortunately I did not have a long weekend, so Dave left after he dropped me off at class.  Yep, that's right, I have class on this wonderful labor day.  All of the university offices are closed, but they make the students and professors show up at their regularly scheduled times.  But I had a fun weekend with Dave, and I'm glad that he had the long weekend so we could spend more time together.  We went for a bike ride, my bike broke so Dave had to carry it for about a half mile.  We bought someone's wedding gift, that should be in the mail ;)  And watched a couple of movies.  It feels like forever since I've watched movies, but we saw some great ones....'Million Dollar Baby' and 'Saved'

Classes are in full swing and already I am slightly behind on my reading.  I have some exciting classes (the ones where my reading is on schedule) and some less exciting classes (the ones where my reading is behind because it is so boring!)  But this week I had orientation at the barn, and the kids that they are working with are so amazing.  My first task for PALS is going to be surveying the volunteers - finding out what they like/dislike, how they want to be recognized, etc. so that we can better tailor the program to get more volunteers....my second task.  Already I am going to be working at two volunteer fairs recruiting people to assist in the riding lessons.  I'm also reviewing their current marketing products, hoping to improve them by the time the fairs come around.

I got my placing with the non-profit agency I am working with this year.  I am going to be working with People and Animal Learning Services, Inc. (PALS).  They provide horseback riding for disabled or at risk children and seniors.  I'm really excited about this opportunity.  The main things I will be working on initially are a marketing plan for them, and also a fund development plan.  It's going to be such an amazing experience, and maybe I'll get to ride a horse :)

The orientation festivities were greatly successful.  We had a good turn out at all of our events.  By the end of the week we were so exhausted, but it was worth it.
